A gigantic nuclear furnace

It boggles my mind that I am such a fan of music but can't for the life of me think of many songs to sing to my baby. I know the lyrics to hundreds of rock songs, but when I try to sing to her, my mind draws a complete blank.

So now we're stuck with the following limited repertoire:
The Little Drummer Boy
Do You Hear What I Hear?
Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer
The Sun is a Mass of Incandescent Gas (she especially seems to like this one)
You Are My Sunshine (I only know one verse of this so it's too short)

Add to the fact that I am NOT a good singer, and it's pretty much a disaster. I guess I need to learn some more songs. I don't even care if the lyrics are "kid-friendly" - I suspect we have plenty of time to worry about that up ahead. I just would like to remember the lyrics to a song without having it playing at the same time. Maybe I need some of those karaoke backing tracks or something.

Or we could just wait until she can sing her own songs. She's well on her way:

  1. I relied on the classics: Old Macdonald, ABCs, Twinkle Twinkle, Mockingbird, the goodbye song from the Lawrence Welk Show and such. I'd also make up crazy nonsense songs that I should have written down. One was, "Ana the Brave" to encourage confidence in my baby girl.

  2. Darling Clementine is a big hit around here!

  3. @Heather - we have many made-up songs too, none of which I can remember to the next day.

@Wendi - I don't know *any* of the words to that song. Does it have a lot of verses? Maybe I should look it up online :)

  4. I agree with Heather and would add "The Itsy Bitsy Spider" (complete w/ hand motions).

We enjoyed all of Raffi's CD's and Kenny Loggin's Return to Pooh Corner CD was a huge favorite.

Both of my kids are rockers now. We started them on The Beatles and Heart very young. Now I'm bursting at the seams because this spring we have tickets to take my daughter to Nickelback's Dark Horse Tour with Shinedown, Sick Puppies, and Breaking Benjamin for her 16th birthday! She will FLIP when we tell her! It is SO hard to not tell her NOW! :)
